Welcome Message from IAVE

IAVE was delighted to announce that the 26th World Volunteer Conference will be held in Abu Dhabi from the 24th to 27th October 2022 hosted by our partner the Emirates Foundation. This will be a truly special event as it is four years since our last global convening, with the 2020 conference postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What a difficult two years the world has experienced, it is a testament to the strength of partnership and a shared passion for volunteering that the Emirates Foundation has remained motivated and committed to hosting this global event. Convening leaders of volunteering is an important aspect of IAVE’s work and we are looking forward to welcoming a global audience in person to Abu Dhabi.
In the midst of a global landscape that has been affected by massive change, challenge and uncertainty, volunteers have provided a constant thread of positive action, hopefulness and resilience for people and communities across the world. Volunteers and the organizations that make up the volunteering family have had to adapt to different circumstances, new roles and new ways of doing things. Evidence from research shows that volunteering itself has been changed by the pandemic. The 2022 World Volunteer Conference will reflect on the new volunteering trends and what the future holds for volunteering. We will also consider the role of volunteers in helping to address key global challenges, some of the big issues such as inclusion, climate change and increasing inequality.
IAVE is looking forward to welcoming the widest range of participants to the conference such as, practitioners, leadership organizations, volunteer involving organizations, academics, volunteers, corporations, and government representatives. The World Volunteer Conference seeks to bring people together to deepen their shared understanding of volunteering and its potential as a global force for good. This is encapsulated in the 2022 theme ‘Volunteering for the Common Good: Making Life Better for People and Communities’. We will share and learn from each other, focusing on creating an enabling environment for volunteering and encouraging volunteerism as an important part of creating a more equal and inclusive future for communities everywhere.
Join with us to stand in solidarity to recognize the importance and value of volunteering and its contribution to building a better world.
Best wishes and see you in Abu Dhabi!

IAVE Executive Director
